The entries in the database consist of the first edition of individual printed works of fiction originally published in their entirety or in part in Swedish; and / or in one of the national minority languages and published within the current borders of Sweden; and / or in Sami and / or Meänkieli and published within the borders of Scandinavia. It also includes works translated into Swedish and written by authors mainly active within the current borders of Sweden. The database also includes autobiographical texts in the proximity of fiction, such as essays, letters, and diaries, which to a large extent—either directly or indirectly—deal with the subject areas of the database.
The areas of the database include same-sex sexual practices, emotions and / or identities; as well as transgressions of binary gender norms through body, dress and / or identity. These areas include but are not limited to what is today commonly known as LGBTQI. The database includes works that either explicitly address these themes, and / or where these are evident based on context. The latter presupposes that the work has been described as belonging to the database’s areas of interest in, for example, research and by community groups, and that it uses codes or symbolism that have been particularly important in these areas.
